Rodney F Nelson January 14, 1932 - December 30, 2023 Rodney F Nelson passed away Saturday, December 30, 2023, at the age of 91.
He was born January 14, 1932, with a twin brother, Ronald, to parents Melvin F and Meltrude A Nelson. The family moved to Corinne, Utah when they were one year old. They lived and farmed in what they referred to as “The River Bend.”
Rodney attended school in Corinne and in the eighth grade the students were moved to Box Elder Junior High. He graduated from Box Elder High School in May of 1950. He was active in FFA (Future Farmers of America) and was Student Body Secretary. Rodney noticed Peggy Wheatley, of Honeyville, Utah, when they were working on the Junior Prom Committee and the rest is history.
On January 18, 1951, Rodney and Peggy were endowed, married and sealed in the Logan, Utah temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The first five years of marriage they resided in Brigham, Corinne or Bear River City where Rodney farmed with his father.
The summer of 1958, along with five children, they bought the Wheatley Farm in Honeyville, Utah. Rodney became a full-time dairy farmer and they later added two more children to the family.
Rodney played softball, watched baseball, and coached and refereed young men’s church basketball. He was an avid bowler and proud of his one-time 300-game. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed working with his sons and the young men's sports.
Rodney’s family worked together with the cows and crops and enjoyed the county fair dairy shows. If we worked hard and finished the work right then we could enjoy time with family and friends.
Rodney is survived by his wife Peggy; sons Keevin (Pam), Honeyville, UT, Bruce (Joan), Honeyville, UT; daughters Marlene (Bern) Cook, Roosevelt, UT, Nancy (David) McKellar, St, George, UT, Peggy Sue (Richard) Stewart, Honeyville, UT, Tami (Ross) Hunsaker, Santa Clara, UT, Jackie Nelson, West Haven, UT; 37 grandchildren and spouses, over 100 greats and adding, and 6 great-greats and adding.
Rodney is preceded in death by his parents Melvin F and Meltrude A Nelson, sisters Loris Anderson, Joan Nelson and twin brother Ronald Nelson.
