September 11, 1926 - January 5, 2024
Mary Joycle Wight Poulsen-Smith, 97, passed away on January 5, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Joycle was born in Los Angeles, California on September 11, 1926, to Lyman and Bertha Holton Wight. She grew up in Brigham City and Perry, Utah where her family owned and operated Holton's Market.
She attended Elementary school in Perry and graduated from Box Elder High School. Shortly after graduation she married her high school sweetheart Lloyd Earl Poulsen on July 14, 1944. They were later sealed in the temple for time and all eternity.
Lloyd and Joycle were blessed with 5 children: Neil, Orson, Dennis, Reese, and Joy. They originally made their home on the family's dry farm in Promontory, Utah, later moving back to Perry.
She stayed at home for many years caring for her family and helping on both the fruit farm in Perry and the dry farm in Promontory. Later in her life she held several jobs: as lunch lady, librarian, and secretary for Perry Elementary where she also spent countless hours of her time volunteering at the school playing the piano for the children to sing and putting on many year-end programs through the years.
She also worked at Fife Rock Products running the scales and keeping the payroll straight. She loved all her jobs. Mostly she loved being of service to others in whatever capacity she could. When her daughter became a teacher in 1984, she gave so much of her time volunteering at the schools where Joy worked reading with the children, decorating the room, and helping with anything at all.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She held many positions in the church throughout her life. Her favorites were playing and leading the music in Primary and Compassionate Service Coordinator.
Joycle's greatest joy in life was her family. She looked forward to the two annual family parties she had each year at Easter and Christmas. Getting together for all the family celebrations such as birthdays, weddings, baptisms, and baby blessings were always a highlight.
She is survived by her 5 children, 17 grandchildren. 33 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren, as well as a large stepfamily. She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 siblings, her husband, Lloyd, and her 2nd husband Smitty, and 2 daughters-in-law, Dael and Lydia Poulsen.
