Thanksgiving is right around the corner and Century Elementary School will be hosting their annual Turkey Trot November 17. This event features students from each grade running as fast as they can, boys against boys, and girls against girls, on a prescribed route.
First place boy and girl from each grade will earn a turkey, second place will earn a pie and third place earns the stuffing. Then everyone cools off by having Thanksgiving holiday beginning with a minimum day Tuesday, November 21 linked to Thanksgiving break November 22-24.
During the recent Corinne City Council meeting, Sheriff Hopkins was applauded for the presence of the sheriff department in the city. Hopkins said he felt the community was a good one and they (officers on duty) enjoyed interacting with citizens.
The house and yard lighting contest will be judged on December 19, just prior to the council meeting that night. Prizes “worth up to dollars” will be given to the best of the best. Council members debated whether or not it was justified to purchase permanent holiday lighting to be used on city hall as opposed to purchasing them each year at a box store. The Mayor was instructed to submit three bids for the project for consideration at the next council meeting.
Council woman Karen Caldwell was excited to report the progress on the restoration of the historical Methodist church. The budget looks good and grants and donations are positive incentives for its continuation. The Christmas card sale is continuing. December 7 will be the annual community Christmas Cantata.
The community offers sincere condolences to the family at the passing Lorraine Andreasen. Her presence will be missed.
