“It’s my favorite part of being mayor!” declared Mayor Shane Baton in regard to the annual Corinne City Egg hunt. Watching and interacting with the kids, he said, is fun.
This year the egg hunt will be held at the city park behind the city office building, Saturday, March 30, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Divisions will be made relating to the age of the little ones. Prizes, for sure. The Corinne Firemen will also be on hand.
Winners of the Easter basket raffle will be announced at the end of the festivities. There are five goody baskets up for grabs this year. Tickets can still be purchased, said council woman Karen Caldwell. Proceeds go toward the restoration of the Methodist Church.
Steve Norman, West Corinne Water District, introduced “Growing Water Smart” Our Water Future, new campaign to the city council. This will be a water master plan for managing county water resources into the future. The kick off meeting will be Thursday, April 11, 2024, at USU Brigham City campus, from 7:00 pm — 8:30 pm. The aim of the meeting is to discuss community driven solutions for the best use of county water. Everyone is encouraged to attend, Norman said.
A Public hearing will be held Tuesday, April 16, at City Hall to discuss the sewer project and proposed sewer rate increase from $25 to $78 per month.
The need for a sewer re-do is real. The sewer system is approximately 54 years old made of cement pipes which have many cracks and corrosion. This condition allows groundwater to invade and thus overload the system. The increase flow affects the treatment lagoons causing Corinne to violate its discharge permit.
Corinne City is currently seeking grants and other funding to help with the cost of construction. Funding sources want sewer fees be a certain price before considering qualifications for funding. The total project is estimated at $10-$15 million. The Public hearing will have clarifications of the why and how.
In other business, Councilman Greg Harris said the emphasis on road repair will concentrate on repairs in the subdivision, 4800 West and on Mule Ranch Road this spring.
