The Utah State Medical Examiner's Office has identified the skeletal remains as Elijah Peck, a 42-year-old male from Garland. His identification was made through the utilization of dental records.
This case is being investigated as suspicious, as is protocol when a cause of death cannot be immediately determined. Based on the information currently available, Mr. Peck was last seen in May 2023 and was not reported as missing. However, as this is an ongoing investigation, these details are subject to change.
There is no further information available for release at this time. Anyone with knowledge that could assist in this investigation should call 435-734-6530 and leave a message or email detectives@boxeldercounty.org.
April 1, 2024:
Authorities are working to identify human skeletal remains that were found at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge over the weekend.
At 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office received a report that the remains were found in a remote wetland area within the refuge on the northwest side of Willard Bay. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Box Elder sheriff’s office responded to the location and confirmed that the remains were human.
The Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office and Weber Metro CSI responded and assisted with processing the area and collecting evidence.
The skeletal remains are currently being sent to the medical examiner’s office for further processing and to determine an identity.
As of Monday, no additional information was available for release. Box Elder Sheriff Chief Deputy said updates would be provided as they become available.
