Corinne council members welcomed Sunrise Engineering representatives Josh Nelson and Scot Archibald to their recent council meeting and listened to their findings based on projected growth for both Water and Sewer Master Plans for the city.
According to the engineering findings, there are currently 34,900 feet of sewer collection pipe in Corinne. There are concerns of sagging original concrete pipes and ground water infiltration into the system.
There is one primary lagoon at the treatment area in Corinne with seven secondary ponds. Sunrise suggests these ponds are over capacity for adequate treatment. Capital improvement recommendations using 20-year projected flows include collection system replacement, lagoon reconfiguration and various upgrades one of which would allow employees to monitor lift stations remotely, all requiring additional citizen billing upgrade to cover the cost. Sunrise offered several names of funding agencies that work with small communities in their efforts to comply with new state standards.
This meeting was to appraise council members of ideas for correction and improvement of the sewer system in town. No decisions were made to proceed as work meetings and Public Hearings will be held in the future to further explore and understand the plan and what commitment will mean to citizens.
Prior to presenting ideas for the Water Master Plan, Archibald stated “overall, the water system looks good”. The plan stated there are 130,650 feet of pipe, or over 27 miles of pipe conveying water to Corinne. Of importance is the ability to have enough water resources to continue residential service while delivering water for firefighting needs.
Included in the recommendations for the Master Plan for Water are the suggestions to develop another well, add better water availability in the Ag Park fire hydrants, and transmission line replacement. Again funding resources were included in the plan.
Council members were a bit overwhelmed with the plan preparation and amount of information provided them by Sunrise Engineering. They agreed that much study and public information would be made available before any agreement for project work would be considered. They voiced appreciation for Sunrise Engineering’s dedication to these projects.
Just a reminder that the annual dog clinic will be held February 10 at the fire station.
