The Bear River baseball team finished the regular season on a seven-game winning streak, earning second place in the final Region 11 standings and a bye through the first round of the state 4A playoffs.
The Bears, who earned the No. 5 playoff seed, will host a familiar foe in Mountain Crest in a best-of-three super regional series this week. The Mustangs swept Tooele last week to earn the trip to Garland.
Bear River went 2-1 against Mountain Crest in their regular season series, taking the first game 12-2 in Garland, falling 2-1 in Hyrum in the second game, and pulling out a 5-3 win in 10 innings in the third matchup, also played in Hyrum.
The Bears (19-6, 12-3) finished the regular season on Tuesday, April 30 with a 14-0 romp over Logan in Garland that ended in five innings. Gehrig Marble belted a three-run homer in the second inning. Easton Goodliffe went 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs including a triple, and struck out 11 while allowing just one hit.
Game 1 of this week’s super regional is slated to begin at 4 p.m. Thursday in Garland. Game 2 will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday followed by Game 3, if necessary, at 4 p.m.

While four other teams in the region duked it out last Friday and Saturday, the No. 5-seeded Bears sat back and awaited the results. They will host a familiar foe in Mountain Crest, which swept Tooele to earn the trip to Garland. Game 1 is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday, followed by Game 2 at 1 p.m. Friday. If necessary, a third and decisive contest will begin at 4 p.m. Friday.
Bear River (19-6, 12-3) went 2-1 against the Mustangs in their regular-season series in late March, winning in Garland 12-2, losing 2-1 in the first game in Hyrum, and coming out on top 5-3 in Hyrum in a game that took 10 innings to decide.
The Bears' final regular-season game was a 14-0 romp over Logan that ended after five innings on Tuesday, April 30 in Garland. Gehrig Marble belted a three-run homer in the second inning, and Easton Goodliffe went 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs, including a triple. Goodliffe also went the distance on the mound, striking out 11 while allowing just one hit and one walk.
The winner of this week's super regional round will advance to face either Desert Hills or Uintah in the first round of bracket play at Salt Lake Community College on Monday, May 13.Â
