Rasmussen tops 50 states’ peaks in 16 years

Rob Rasmussen finished his goal of hiking the highest peaks in all 50 states in July. He gives the 5-0 sign here with his hands.

Sixteen years ago Rob Rasmussen set out to conquer each peak in the 50 states. The first week of July his mission was accomplished.

“It’s a major goal that’s taken me a long time to get,” Rasmussen said.

Gauging from a High Peaks Club newsletter Rasmussen receives, this most likely puts him somewhere around the 205th person to accomplish the feat. “A month ago they named the 200th person to climb all 50 peaks,” he said.

In February Rasmussen was facing snow at 2,000 feet in Alabama. He also chalked up Mississippi, Louisiana and Florida on this stint. Rasmussen and his wife, Karen, had another motive for this trip—to pick up their 21-year old son Tyson from his mission in Florida. Tyson was just 5 years old when his father’s quest began
