Former Commissioner Succumbs to Cancer
Perry, Utah—Allen Lamont Jensen passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2010, in Perry, Utah at the age of 78, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 17, 1931, in Brigham City.
Allen graduated from Box Elder High School with the class of 1949. He later joined the Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon discharge, he joined the Utah National Guard and served for 25 years.
He was a past Commander of the American Legion Post 10, a past Commander of the VFW Post 1695, and a Member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 18 in Brigham City.
Allen was elected Box Elder County Clerk and was later elected Box Elder County Commissioner. While serving as Commissioner, he was Chairman of the Board for the Bear River Health Department and a member of the Utah Association of Governments. He also served on the Brigham City Planning Commission, the Board of Adjustments, and the Brigham City Heritage Arts Festival Committee.
He is survived by his wife Patti, daughter Jo’D and husband Mark Wilson of South Jordan, son Kenneth and wife Joni Jensen of South Jordan, son Michael Jensen of Farmington, sister Connie Craft of Derby, Kansas, 11 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren with 1 on the way. Preceded in death by his parents and siblings Erma Hansen, Leland Jensen, and Marie Crossman.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 13 at the Perry Stake Center, 685 West 2250 South, Perry, Utah, at 12:00 Noon with a viewing prior to the service from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
A viewing will also be held on Wednesday, May 12, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, Utah.
Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the American Legion.
