Democrats hold county convention
While the Republicans had people walking away because the caucuses were overflowing, the county’s Democrats held their convention last week with less than a dozen people who showed up.
According to county chairperson Heidi Compton, an incorrectly published address in another paper may have contributed to the lack of attendance, but acknowledged, “We are kind of a dieing breed. There really wasn’t anything to discuss, so it was a short and sweet meeting.”
During the meeting the group collected Dollars for Democrats. Also, Rick Kent announced he had filed for the State Senate Dist. 17 position held by Peter Knudsen. Ross Reeder from Perry filed for School District 7 seat.
The group appointed new leadership: Chair – Heidi Compton; Co-chair – Carrie Johnson; Secretary – Anna Thompson; Treasurer – Joann Kimber
The state convention will be on May 8 in Salt Lake City. Caucuses will be held before with a call to order at 11 a.m.
