HYRUM — Granted, it was their first match of the season, but if the Mustangs continue framing shots like they did Wednesday, Region 5 opponents beware. Mountain Crest put the lion’s share of its shots on goal and it paid off in a 5-1 victory over Bear River in a non-region boys soccer match at Lynn R. Miller Field.
The Bears (1-1) made things interesting four minutes into the second half, when Riley Steed received a pinpoint through ball from Everardo Lemus, fended off an MC defender and beat goalkeeper Jon Maughan with a shot to the near post. Steed’s goal trimmed Bear River’s deficit to 2-1 and gave the visitors some life. Unfortunately for the Bears, they were never really able to seriously threaten the Mustangs from then on, and the hosts poured it on from the 57th minute on, scoring three unanswered goals.
