Willard crash claims two
A crash on Saturday evening, Aug. 23, in Willard claimed the life of a Salt Lake County teenager and a Perry grandmother.
Dead at scene were 15-year- Jacob Santos and his 66-year-old passenger Ruth P. Nelson.
Willard Police Chief J. Loveland said at about 5:30 p.m., a 2005 Lexus, driven by the teen, pulled onto Willard’s Main Street from 750 N. The young driver apparently did not see a 2006 Toyota Tundra, driven by Jordan Taylor of Cache County, approaching from the left. The truck impacted the Lexus, killing both occupants. Taylor was taken by ambulance to Brigham City Community Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.
Loveland said the accident is still under investigation and will be reviewed by the Box Elder County Attorney’s Office, but it does not appear at this time that charges will be filed against the driver of the truck.
Willard police were joined by Utah Highway Patrol troopers, Perry officers, Box Elder County Sheriff’s deputies and officers from the Division of Natural Resources, as well as Willard and Brigham City fire and EMS crews.
