Drowsy driving causes crash

An early morning crash on Hwy 38 left two drivers with minor injuries.

According to Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Jack Jessop, a small Toyota pickup truck, driven by Dillan Austin, 22, of Tremonton, was traveling northbound on 38. He fell asleep at the wheel and crossed into oncoming traffic near Earley Park turnoff just south of SR-30 at milepost 18.

Austin woke up and swerved back but but not in time to avoid Roberto Valles, 53 of Logan, and four passengers heading southbound in a Plymouth Neon. The two vehicles collided on the drivers’ sides, causing the Toyota to overturn.

Both drivers where transported to Bear River Valley with minor injuries. The passengers had minor cuts and were taken to the hospital by a personal vehicle. UHP, as well as Tremonton ambulance responded.
