Bryce Lawson has been an avid runner for years and now he’s using that passion for a higher cause. Now Bryce is hosting a 5K for his Eagle Scout project to raise money for injured war veterans.
“I’m on the (high school) cross county and track teams,” he said. “I run a lot and I enjoy it. I thought a 5K would be a fun Eagle project. The only problem was finding a way to make the 5K a worthwhile project.”
One day his dad, Mike, who works at Nucor, told him about Operation Steel Warrior, a multi-division Nucor effort to raise money to support the construction of smart homes for severely wounded service members. He recommended Bryce consider joining forces with Nucor to raise money for this cause.
Bryce liked the idea and pitched the 5K and one-mile walk/run to a Nucor manager, who was on board with the project and gave Bryce the go ahead. Since then Bryce has spent hours preparing for the event.
