After claiming first in the Bear River Valley Chariot Association, O-K Boys, driven by Josh Theurer, competed in the championship round of the World Champion Cutter and Chariot races at the Ogden Weber County Fairgrounds and claimed third, with a time of 22.40.
Owen and Linda Kay Udy are the owners of O-K Boys.
Owen, a resident of Elwood, started racing in the 1960s when he was only a teenager. Owen had his first run for the division one World Championship title in 2002 when he claimed third. In 2011, his son Michael won the title and in 2012, Owen claimed the same feat.
Owen, who has raced every year, was sidelined this year due to a shoulder operation. His grandson, Josh, who recently returned home from an LDS mission, was ready to get back in the driver seat.
“My goal has been to get back into it and I was lucky enough to get the opportunity this year,” said Josh. “It was a blast and I enjoyed every minute of it.”
When asked who would be in the driver seat next year, Owen said, “I don’t know, there might be a wrestling match.”
