Arrests made in Tremonton

The Tremonton police department and Box Elder County Narcotic Strike Force joined together to make two arrests on Thursday morning, April 3, at the Blue Sphynx, a smoke shop on Tremont Street.

The departments obtained arrest warrants for the owner and operator of the Blue Sphynx, John Nathan Abel of Garland, and one of his employees, Rawlinn Kay Hodges of Tremonton. They were booked into the Box Elder County Jail for selling illegal drugs over an extended course of time.

Charges against Abel include three counts of Distribution of a Controlled Substance, second degree felonies.  Hodges faces one count.

Detective Andy Marchant said, “The intent of the city is to revoke their business license based on their criminal actions.”

More information will be posted as it is made available.

Hmm mm I believe it. Especially when my son’s friend who is under age bought product from the blue sphynx. Also they wouldn’t go and arrest them without doing a full on investigation. So I’m sure they have been watched for awhile now. Just cause you think you know someone doesn’t mean that they can’t do something like this. I’m glad they are going to be gone.

This is NOT a bunch of BS!! They both deserved everything they got! John calls himself a store owner but he is dealing drugs? He knew what he was doing was illegal and he kept doing it! They both knew it was illegal! They both have families they should have been thinking about. I’m glad they went down!

John did time for murder got off way to easy. John just plead guilty to rape did 30 days got off way to easy. Now he is selling drugs out of his store and he will get off easy again. Throw that bastard in prison he will do all of this again.

Hell of a job by the strike force. We need to get all and any drugs and drug users of the streets. I don’t feel bad at all for someone that destroys his family by selling drugs. Shame on him for being so selfish.

Wow let’s stand up for someone who deals out of their shop….. Sells piss poor juice that taste like plastic and sells to minors. Glad he is gone now because we don’t need that crap here in town. As for the other shop… . It isn’t open at the moment due to reasons but will be opening again soon so I have heard. I also know that the rumors were started by Blue sphynx to give the other shop a bad name. I heard it from john himself.

Strike force is a joke. I did 3 years in utah state prison for crimes I didn’t commit. They probably set him up like they did to me because he wasn’t going with the grain of this mormon culture.

    April 3, 2014 at 8:17 pm

I dont know this fella personally but damn, he really does sound like such a stand up guy, like so many of you claim.
Here are some of the FACTS about this man…

He raped his “friends” wife!!! What a pile of shit! Hope he goes away for a long time! You are calling him such a great guy but he is bold enough to rape a woman let alone the fact that this was supposed to be the wife of a friend.
You people who are standing up for this dirtbag are complete idiots and must be buying your dope from him! Ignorance is bliss…
So glad I dont live in that awful town anymore.

  21. chris
    April 3, 2014 at 8:18 pm

And because it was started by methodists means it still is all methodist now? The mormons run the government throughout this whole state. Separation of church and state is a joke in Utah.

    April 3, 2014 at 8:24 pm

No wonder Morton Thiokol left we don’t seem to have many rocket scientists left in this town. Are you guys that ignorant to believe strike force didn’t have cause or evidence to arrest him? It doesn’t take a genius to realize you can’t set up a head shop across from the cop shop and not be watched. I’m sure they have been watching for along time and have enough evidence to arrest them. You can not come to a small town and be that type of person and run a successful bussiness and be accepted by the community.

  23. Sam
    April 3, 2014 at 8:32 pm

I’m positive they did a full on investigation. If not, then they will be released for lack of evidence and the task force will be repremended. You cannot be arrested on hearsay, it is not evidence. And saying it’s because of religion makes you look more ignorant than those of the religion itself. It’s the law, they broke it. End of story.

  24. Adam
    April 3, 2014 at 8:57 pm

I have no idea whether these guys did it or not, but everyone should sit back and wait until the evidence is brought out. Remember, they are innocent until proven guilty. Don’t start hating on them when they may not have even committed the crimes they are accused of.

  28. Sam
    April 3, 2014 at 11:06 pm

Religion has nothing to do with drugs… It’s wrong no matter what religion you are! The people standing up for them are probably the ones who were buying drugs from them! Do you really want them in business selling this crap to our children?!!!

Hey Chris….. sorry to burst your anti Mormon bubble thing going on….BUT, guess what the church doesn’t make and enforce the laws, the STATE does. How about, if all of you nay sayers don’t like to get arrested, or you don’t like your friends to get arrested, YOU STOP breaking the law! Criminals are almost always going to get caught eventually……. FIGURE IT OUT! If your not willing to do the time or lose what you have then stop being selfish and stupid and putting your families at risk! It’s not rocket science.

People need to do their homework before opening their mouths. These two men are great guys and no drugs were found..With that said Sam I can honestly say Yes I am standing up for them and their shop and NO I am not a drug user so how can you that just because some stand up for them they must have been the buyers?? You guys need to get all the facts and truth before tearing people down..

John is getting out. John didn’t do anything and if any of you believe differently it’s due to arrogance. John is a good man and he does good for all around him. So he has a past who doesn’t? What happened to innocent until proven guilty? Oh not to mention that the cop can’t even really tell the bondsman what he was arrested for but yet have had him in custody since 9 am. If they had a leg to stand on it wouldn’t of taken them so long to book him. Know your facts before opening your mouth. John is a very loving man. As for rawlinn he has never steered me wrong. Go find something better to do with your time.

Why do people have to be so hateful no one is perfect everyone makes mistake and people saying they were selling to there kids or under age you as parents should know where your kids are ? It’s a two way street so before you sit there and write bad things or being judgmental remember your not perfect our justice system is flawed we have a judge that isn’t perfect we also have cops that have problems of there own life isn’t easy for any one so leave these people alone if you don’t like them don’t talk to them if you don’t like there shop don’t go there if you don’t want your kids there keep a better eye on them easy as that .

You cannot put evidence on a business owner for items that were found elsewhere! My Sphynx people know who I am. They know what I do. Many people come in and sit for hours and know us. So when you tell me that it is fair that charges were placed against me for things that happened away from my store and not EVER in my possession, run your mouth, feel like a retard and when Tremonton shuts me down for a reason that they have no evidence (NOTHING WAS MINE IR IN MY POSSESSION), they will be on the front cover for a change. All this was started by people who went out of business because they could not operate a good one!

  35. Tamisha
    April 4, 2014 at 9:53 am

I can stick up for him because I know him personally out if work and for anyone to judge them who are you do you sit on a thrown?? They found jack shit. Let’s sit back and see the evidence and for anyone to be trying to put John on blast for his past you got something wrong with yourself. John Hayden I love you both and you guys do a wonderful job.

    April 4, 2014 at 11:28 am

You guys sound like a bunch of grade school kids. If items were found, or things were sold, then let a judge sort this out. As far as pointing fingers at another company or person, and laying the blame on them, makes you just as shallow as they are. Laws are laws. OBEY THEM!

Interesting series of hateful remarks coming from people in a town that used to claim itself as being progressive and friendly. We as humans are all connected. We are all one. What you say or do to others eventually gets back to you. Karma is indeed a universal law. Jesus said, ” love everyone.” Even if you don’t like their smoke shop.

Oh the small town life, in ways it is so rewarding, in other ways it is not. This is a great sample of the not so rewarding benefits of living in a small town. Everyone thinks they know everything about you just because it is printed in a small town newspaper it has to be true. Has John been proven guilty in a court of law? No! Those who think they know the situation you dont and obviously you dont know John and who he is today in the present not the past. I am one that is proud to say I know John and have for the past 2 years. He is in a realationship with my daughter and my daughter has 2 boys. John is great with my grandsons ages 6-7. Always patient, loving, so very giving to them! My grandsons love him! My daughter loves him! And I love him as well! I know the things that are being said about him are from people that dont know him that are from a small town and feels the need to judge, or from people from the huff and puff that went out of business. I know this because some of the things said in comment are the same as the harassing phone calls, messages and emails being sent to John over the past couple months. Very pathetic! Cant even state your name! You people writing these nasty judgemental comments, if you are so sure of your comments back it up with your name. Just remember John is human, and he has family that love him, and friends that love him and we are all human as well. If you have never met John and know only one side to this story please keep your mean comments to yourselves. If you dont know John, go into the blue spynx and meet him, get to know him before you judge him.

I really don’t want to hear all the praise of the local cops around here. Wow great job for stopping This criminal mastermind (what a joke), where were you while one of your own was stalking and sexually abusing a little girl. I think the law should spend more time looking inward. Screw the drugs save us from the police

Charges against John Abel have been dropped. I’m sure the leader will right the wrong and do another story. There will be a article in the standard examiner Friday tomorrow. So lesson learned, if you don’t know someone personally you don’t have the right to judge who they are. There is a reason why John has so many people that surround and love him. Guess we do know him best!
From the beginning of opening the blue spynx had been harrassed by the cops of this town. They ruined a great business that was doing great in this little town.
