The Bear River wrestling team has done it again-they were crowned Region 11 champions after tallying 340 points, edging host Tooele who had 301 points. Stansbury placed third as a team (194.5), while Grantsville and Ben Lomond finished fourth and fifth with point totals of 119 and 57, respectively. This is the Bears fourth straight Region championship. Overall, all 27 Bear wrestlers placed in the top seven of their respective weights, with 25 of them placing in the top four spots.
“I thought we would bust a couple more through to the finals, but I think we are wrestling really well,” said head coach Jeff Smart. “These guys are excited and they are coming on at just the right time. We are kind of hitting our stride a bit and it’s the right time of the season. Hopefully our divisional tournament will be a good one.”
The Bears will now gear up for the northern divisional tournament at Ben Lomond on Feb. 7-8, before heading to Utah Valley University in Orem for the 2013-14 Utah 3A State Wrestling Tournament on Feb. 14-15.
At the Region 11 tournament in Tooele, Bear River had five individual region champions including Cooper Skinner (106), Nick Bingham (113), Braxton Conger (152), Toby Haltiner (160) and Kyle Peterson (195).
