COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fresno State and Utah State will play in the inaugural Mountain West Football Championship Game on Saturday, Dec. 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. MT/7 p.m. PT and the game will be televised on CBS. The Bulldogs (7-1 MW, 10-1 overall) clinched the West Division a week ago, while the Aggies (7-1 MW, 8-4 overall) captured the Mountain Division with their 35-7 victory over Wyoming today. The site of the MW Football Championship Game will be announced Sunday, December 1.
Fresno State is led by quarterback Derek Carr and wide receiver Devante Adams. Carr leads the nation in touchdown passes (45), touchdowns responsible for (47) and passing yards per game (405.6), while Adams is the FBS leader in receptions per game (10.3) and receiving touchdowns (22), and ranks second in receiving yards per game (134.3).
True freshman quarterback Darell Garretson has led Utah State to five straight wins since taking over the starting role for injured quarterback Chuckie Keeton. Garretson is the first freshman quarterback in USU history to win his first five starts.
Fresno State and Utah State did not play during the 2013 regular season. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series with the Aggies 16-10-1. Fresno State has won five in a row versus Utah State, including a 31-21 victory on Oct. 15, 2011 in Fresno.
