A father and son spent an unexpected night on the mountain near Willard Peak after an all day hike was extended to an overnight stay on London Spire.

Chief Deputy Kevin Potter said the two, a 50-year-old and a 16-year-old, left for the hike to London Spire on Saturday, Nov. 2, but the trip took longer than anticipated and the pair was forced to stay overnight.

Dispatch received a call about 6 a.m., Sunday morning from a caller who reportedly said the men were overdue.  Search and Rescue units were called in and stayed in cell phone contact with the hikers during the search.  LifeFlight also responded to the scene and were able to land near the hikers.  The pair was safely off the mountain by 10 a.m.  Neither were injured.
