Bear River got an early lead on Uintah and had enough in the tank to turn back the Utes, 32-25, in the regular season finale for both teams.
The Bears now host Hurricane Friday at 4 p.m. in Garland in the first round of the playoffs.
Against Uintah, the Bears built what seemed to be a comfortable 32-14 lead in the fourth quarter, but the Utes added two more TDs to make it interesting.
The two team were pretty even on offense. Bear River had 369 total yards while Uintah had 388. JarDee Nessed passed for 142 yards on 8 of 18 attempts. He had one score, to sophomore Bridger Beus. Jeramie Selman had 96 yards rushing while Colton Jensen added 93, including 76 on one play. Beus had 74 receiving yards.
Makade Mitton had 12 tackles to lead the BR defense. Taylor Lund added 9 and Justus Wise had 8. Tanner Porter had two interceptions, including one that he returned for a 67 yard score.
The Bears are now 7-3 overall.
