BC police look into possible kidnapping attempt
A concerned Brigham City woman called police Saturday night after her four-year-old daughter was approached by a stranger outside her home earlier in the evening.
Lt. Dennis Vincent of the Brigham City Police Department said the woman reported to officers that she was watching her daughter playing outside about 6:30 p.m., on Oct. 19, when a white man, 40-50 years old, got out of a maroon extended cab pickup truck, unknown make, and began talking to the little girl. When the mother went outside to tell to daughter to come into the house, the man, who was wearing a grey sweater and jeans, walked off, got back into the truck and drove away.
Vincent said is wasn’t until the woman discussed the incident with neighbors that she decided to share what happened with police. She made that call about 10 p.m. The woman reported that as the man was leaving, the daughter asked, “Am I going with him or coming into the house with you?”
“The incident is definitely suspicious,” Vincent said, and his officers are looking for a vehicle matching the description given. While this is the only encounter reported to his department, Vincent urges parents to be cautious and let police know if they have seen the vehicle or a possible suspect in their neighborhood.
