A Logan man escaped serious injury in an early morning crash that killed two horses.
Utah Highway Patrol trooper Josh Carr said the victim was traveling SR 30 near Riverside, at about 6 a.m., Thursday morning when he struck three horses wandering in the roadway. The impact totaled his vehicle and killed one of the horses instantly.
A second horse suffered a broken leg and had to be put down.
The man received minor head trauma and was taken by ambulance to Bear River Valley Hospital for treatment.
The third horse was slightly injured and returned to its owner.
Carr said a search of the pasture area where the horses were normally kept showed no downed fences or open gates, and an investigation is continuing to determine how the horses escaped.
