Fire controlled on Refuge

An eight-acre grass fire on the bird training area south of Willard Bay on the Harold Crane Bird Refuge had fire units from Willard, Box Elder County and Weber County on scene for several hours before the fire was contained.

Box Elder County Fire Marshal Corey Barton said the fire was called in about 3 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.  Fifteen firefighters, seven brush trucks and one structural engine were involved.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Barton stated.

Several years ago a fire was reported in the same area.  That fire was  intentionally set and then spikes were situated in the road to disable the responding trucks.  While no fire units were damages, several onlookers in  the area received flat tires.
