Officials are calling the State Fire burning on the Utah/Idaho border 50 percent contained as of late Tuesday night. Additional manpower, including 266 firefighters, held the line on the lightning-caused fire that has now consumed 22,054 acres.
A report from the Central West Zone Incident Management Team said the north side of the fire is expected to have the most activity, with flare-ups occurring in the heavy sagebrush and dry grasses throughout the night.
On Wednesday, fire crews hope to continue to improve control lines and dozer lines will be prepared to help with potential burnout operations on the north and east sides of the fire. Mop-up activity and hot spot monitoring will take place on the south end.
