Two Box Elder County sheriff deputies were recently charged with domestic violence in their Tremonton home. Richard Bills, who is married to Janea Vandehei, has served as a deputy for eight years. She has worked with the department for seven.
According to the Tremonton City Court Clerk, Bills was charged with one count of domestic violence-a class B assault and domestic violence in the presence of a child-a class 3 misdemeanor. Vandehei was charged with one count of domestic violence-a class B assault, domestic violence in the presence of a child-a class 3 misdemeanor and disorderly conduct-charged as an infraction.
The charges were filed by the prosecutor Jonathan Jenkins. They are served to appear in court on Aug. 19, 2013.
According to Box Elder County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Kevin Potter, the department was notified on June 26, by Tremonton City police that they had investigated a domestic violence dispute with Bills and Vandehei. No arrests were made and the case was given to the city attorney for review.
The criminal case is being handled by Tremonton City police. Since the conduct was while off duty, the sheriff’s office’s is conducting an internal affairs investigation. The deputies are on administrative leave, pending an investigation.
