Rocky Mountain Power will be putting in many hours and thousands of dollars as they work to replace copper wiring taken from 86 power poles along the Locomotive Springs road in Box Elder County.

The report of the theft came into the  Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, although the exact date the copper was stripped from the poles is not known.

Deputy Sheriff Kevin Potter said the thieves likely netted only a few hundred dollars worth of scrap for their efforts, but the time and manpower to replace what has been taken will be expensive.

Because their method was unique, Potter said  his officers will be checking out scrap yards and  looking for pieces matching the description of the stolen wire.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office.
