Multiple fire units are battling intense heat and winds as they try to gain the upper hand on a fire in the western part of
Box Elder County that started in a recreational area known as Devil’s Playground.
Sheriff Lynn Yeates said the fast moving fire, which is believed to have been ignited by lightening, has consumed between 1,200 and 1,500 acres of BLM and private ground since it was reported at about 11 a.m., Saturday morning As of Saturday night, the blaze was less than 10 percent contained, although five different departments (Park Valley, Corinne, Garland, Fielding and Honeyville) are on the fire line, as are county and state crews. Hot Shot units from Sacramento will be arriving Sunday morning to join them.
Yeates said much of the fight has been from the air as the fire has often been difficult to reach and the flames too intense to attack from the ground.
