County Search and Rescue crews were back on the mountain above Perry Thursday evening, this time to help bring down two hikers who became stranded on a cliff near the area known as Solomon’s Mines.
Box Elder County Sheriff Lynn Yeates said the two men, 32 and 18, both from the Perry area, were hiking in Perry Canyon on July 18, when they became disoriented and ended up on the edge of a cliff. About 12 Search and Rescue members were called in just before 4 p.m., to help locate the men. Because of the situation, a Life Flight helicopter was dispatched to lower a rescue team to the stranded men.
Yeates said the men were not equipped for their extended stay on the mountain and were dehydrated when rescuers reach them late in the evening, supplying them with food and water. Crews then helped return the two to family members waiting in the McGuire gravel pit below. It was about midnight before everyone was down off the mountain.
