Reduced taxes, anyone?

County rate at four-year low

Taxpayers should see a decrease in the property taxes this fall, at least where Box Elder County is concerned.
That was the prediction from county auditor Tom Kotter as he presented the certified tax rate to commissioners for approval last Wednesday.
He said the county taxes are based on three different levies:  the county operations rate which was set at .002136; the state collecting and assessing rate, set at .000158, and the local collecting and assessing rate of .000239.  The combine total of the three would be .002533.
He compared that number to the previous three years of tax rates issued.  In 2012, the rate was .002697.  In 2011 it was even higher, at .002711, and in 2010 the rate was .002581.
