McKinley Community Council Elections

McKinley Elementary School will be holding elections for three (two-year term) open slots on the school community council. Voting takes place Tuesday, Aug. 20, from 3–6 p.m. The school community council meets monthly to discuss school-wide issues and determine school policies. They also oversee the implementation and evaluation of the annual school improvement plan. If interested contact Steve Chadaz at steve.chadaz@besd.net with your name and a brief bio by Friday, July 19.


Garland Library

The theme for June and July is Dig into Reading.  Activities will center on archaeology and with conclude weith a pirate party.  The library has a new computer geared to youngsters, containing 60 learning games.

Today at 5:30 p.m., is Drink and Draw, with graphic novel author Gary Brantner.  Open to all ages.  Teen party is 5:30 p.m., Thursday, June 27.  Get Zombified.  June 28 is Alter Book Day.  Discarded books will be turned into decorative recipe books.  Cost is $10.  Sign up in advance.

Job Search help, Wednesdays, 5-7 p.m.; Stories with Torie, 4-5 p.m., Thursdays.

Summer Reading programs begin July1.

Friends of the Library Tremonton chapter bags can be purchase for $1.  Preorder the new Heather Frost novel, “Guardians.”


Patriotic 4th

The Elwood Second Ward will host a pre 4th of July Sunday musical production for all Elwood residents on June 30, at 6 p.m., at the Elwood Church.  The event will feature the Bear River Community Chorale under the direction of Carl Ashby.  Refreshments will follow.


Relay for Life

Box Elder Relay for Life Cancer Walk is June 28-29, at Pioneer Park in Brigham City.  Survivors are being sought to come and help those still in the battle find hope.  Go to boxelderrelay.com and register yourself, a loved one or a friend.


Miss BR Valley

Applications are now being accepted for the Miss Bear River Valley Scholarship Pageant, to be held Thursday, Aug. 1.  Scholarships are available to all participants.  If interested, call Tami Deakin, 257-0274, or Chandlie Neal, 279-7882.


Wheat and Beet Run-Walk

The 15th annual Garland public Library Wheat and Beet –Hit the Street 10K run-5K run-2 Mile Walk -1Mile Kids Run will be held Saturday, Aug. 3, at 7 a.m.  Pre-register online at www.garlandlibrary.org or www.garlandutah.org, by July 12 for the discount price and the shirt.  Registrations can also be picked up at the library or city offices.


Support Group

LDS Family Services sponsors a pornography addiction support group each Wednesday, at 7:30 p.m. at the Tremonton Jr. Seminary.  There is no cost.  Dress is casual.  Call 435-752-5302 for more information.


Parkinson’s Support

The Brigham City Parkinson’s Support Group will meet Friday, June 28, at 4 p.m., in the cafeteria of Brigham City Community Hospital.  Jerry Ohman will be the guest speaker.  For more information, contact Lucie Reeder, 435-744-2987.


Tremonton Library

The Tremonton City Library will have an adult flag craft day on Saturday, June 29, from 10 a.m.-noon, at the library. An example is on display at the Tremonton City Library. The cost is $5. Sign up at the library.


Walk Against Suicide

The Northern Box Elder County Suicide Prevention Coalition will host a walk to prevent suicide Friday, July 19, at Jeannie Stevens Park.  Registration will start at 8 a.m., by the stage.  The walk begins at 8:30.  There is no cost to this event.
