Tom Austin has been an avid hunter his entire life. He has transformed this passion into a career, not only hunting and guiding tours, but by being a cameraman, photographer and writer. As a columnist for the magazine Predator Xtreme, he recently earned national recognition by gaining two Reader’s Choice Awards – Favorite Predator Xtreme Article and Favorite Predator Xtreme Writer.

Austin’s dad got him involved with hunting as soon as he could walk. They went on their first hunting trip for coyotes when he was seven years old and he was instantly hooked.

“I fell in love with it the first time I went,” he said.

About eight years ago he started hunting coyotes professionally. He offers guided hunts for predators all over the United States. While there are a handful with his unusual profession, Austin is one of two who offer this service in Utah.

“The thing I do different is that I use a HD camera,” he said. “I am their guide and cameraman. This gives them an opportunity to have footage to remember the hunt by.”

About four years ago he decided he wanted to try his hand at writing for Predator Xtreme magazine.

“I started selling more and more and then I guess they liked me because I started as a regular columnist (six months after the first article sold),” Austin said.

His column, Caller for Hire, has become a popular read in the hunting world.

He said, “The articles are educational and there is always something for the reader to learn. It is entertaining and usually somewhat funny for guys who like to hunt.”

He uploads footage of each hunt to his YouTube channel and website, predatorstrikeforce.com  He then writes about his experiences, helping to promote and encourage his hunts.
