It was gut check time for Bear River on Wednesday as they hosted region rival Grantsville in Garland.
The two teams battled to a 1-1 tie before the Bears opened up a 3-1 lead late in the game.
Holding to that lead with one out and two runners on in the top of the 7th, pitcher Jordan Theurer induced a Cowboy batter to pop up just past shortstop. Erin Fox backpedaled and left fielder Jordan Fitting came in but there was confusion as to who was going to catch the ball. Then, in the last second, centerfielder Brenna Hinck came racing in and dove to make the critical catch. She covered abot 40 yards to make the game saving play. Theurer got the next batter out and the Bears held on for the win.
The Bears improved to 9-1 in region play (12-3 overall). Grantsville is now 7-3 in Region 11 play (11-5 overall). Next up for Bear River is a Friday game vs. Ogden.
