The residents of Bear River City are without water today after a main waterline to the town broke.
Trisha Wurtz, secretary for the Acme Water Company said a resident reported the leak east of Bear River City on Wednesday morning, March 27. Crews were on scene immediately to assess the situation. By noon, the exact location of the water leak had not yet been found, although workers from Grover Excavation had dug a large hole near the line.
Century Elementary School sent home their students early, “for health reasons,” according to Principal Wade Hyde. “We recently implemented a brand new calling tree, which worked pretty well.”
Hyde had called the School Superintendent Ron Wolff about 9:30 a.m., to inform him of the water problem and he was told to release the students early. Lunch was moved up an hour and then buses were dispatched to transport most of the children. Parents were also notified of the early-out.
Wurtz said she anticipates the leak being fixed sometime during the afternoon, and having water back on to homes and the school by evening.
