Diesel fuel leak closes Willard Bay

Willard Bay State Park North Marina and campground are closed until further notice following a pipeline fuel leak on Monday, March 18, at  the campground and day-use areas. The diesel fuel pipeline is owned by Chevron and runs the length of Box Elder County.  The company has contained the spill to small retaining ponds. Chevron reports diesel fuel did not reach Willard Bay and was kept contained by a beaver dam on Willow Creek.

Park Manager James Morgan reports all campers were evacuated safely after sensors detected the leak. Due to the closure, park employees are working to de-winterize the South Marina and prepare it for day-use and camping.

Morgan is working with Chevron, the Weber Basin Water Conservancy District, Bureau of Reclamation and Division of Wildlife Resources to ensure the protection of all resources, including wildlife habitat.
