Man arrested in BC bank robbery
A 29-year-old man from the Ogden area has been booked into the Box Elder County Jail on charges of Aggravated Bank Robbery, Aggravated Carjacking, Felony Evading, Resisting Arrest and Attempting to Disarm a Police Officer following an incident Tuesday evening that began at Chase Bank, 101 South Main in Brigham City.
A report from the Brigham City Police Department said Box Elder Dispatch received a call of a robbery in progress just after 6 p.m. A man wearing a mask and gloves approached a teller and demanded money be put into the bag he handed her. He told the teller he was in possession of a gun, although he did not produce it at that time. When the amount she gave him proved to be insufficient, he demanded more money from a second teller, who also complied. The suspect then ran from the bank.
A witness saw the male still wearing the mask fleeing on foot and followed as he ran east on 100 S., then south on 100 E. At that point the suspect attempted to hid the bag of money, the gloves and the mask. He then pulled out a gun and demanded a green Dodge pickup from a man who had pulled into a residence near the corner of 200 S. and 100 E. Inside the vehicle was a four-year-old and both the mother and the suspect went for the child, at which time the suspect dropped the weapon. As he went to retrieve the gun, the mother was able to remove the child. The suspect then fled in the stolen pickup.
Officers spotted the suspect and the vehicle as it took a corner extremely fast at 200 S. and 200 E. and pursued. The vehicle crashed into a cement barricade near an apartment complex at 500 S. 400 E. The suspect got out of truck but would not follow the commands of police. As officers attempted to take him into custody, the suspect continually resisted, even spitting on and biting them. The suspect was eventually handcuffed and subdued. The handgun, a 9 mm semi automatic pistol, was found in the snow under the suspect and was fully loaded.
The man, identified as Brad Beasley, was transported to Brigham City Community Hospital to be treated for minor injuries and was then transported to the jail. Two officers received minor injuries at the scene when the suspect was being taken into custody and were also treated and released.
Law enforcement from surrounding jurisdictions assisted in the apprehension of the suspect.
