SR 30 accident proves fatal

SR 30 AccidentTwo North Logan men, a father and a son, are dead following  a two car accident on SR 30 Saturday evening.  A third man was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

A report from Utah Highway Patrol said the driver of a 2003 GMC Envoy, Alfonzo E. Vazquez, 47, of  Brigham City, was eastbound near milepost 100 about 6 p.m., when he lost control and crossed the center line into the path of an eastbound 1991 Nissan pickup driven by Terry K. Barnett, 70.  Nicholas C. Barnett, 33, was a passenger in the pickup. The two vehicles collided head on and both occupants of the pickup died at the scene.  Vazquez was taken to Logan Regional Hospital.

Snow was falling at the time of the accident, according to UHP, and the roads were snow covered, with strong winds blowing.  The accident is still under investigation, but speed is believed to be a factor.  All three men were wearing seatbelts.
