The Bear River boys’ basketball team will get a chance for sweet redemption Saturday night when they square off for the third time this year with region rival, Morgan, for the state 3A championship at the Dee Events Center in Ogden.
The Bears blew out Snow Canyon by the score of 83-55 to advance to their first championship game since 2009, when they beat Logan.
Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m. The Bears will be playing the Trojans, who beat Wasatch 52-50 Friday. Morgan snuck out with two close wins in region play so the Bears will need no more motivation when they tip off Saturday.
Bubba Miller splashed in 25 points and Nick Hillis and Garrett Fronk add 11 each. Cody King had 8 and Stetson Summers and Lane Bitner each had 6.
Chandler Gines paced Snow Canyon with 17 points.
The Bears led Snow Canyon 21-16 after the first quarter on some key baskets by Garrett Fronk and Miller. They stretched the lead to 41-25 at the half and led 61-37 after three in a very physical game. The Bears’ outside shooting and unselfish play helped them to the lead.
