The Boondoggle Brigade

Lydia Bullard can’t wait to board the school bus each morning.  The second grader from Honeyville is eager to arrive at Century Elementary in Bear River City and greet her friends.  But she is even more excited to head to the school’s gym before the bell rings to start class.
The draw is boondoggles.  Lydia, like many other students at the school, is hooked on the plastic craft string used to make lanyards. With a big grin on her face and her colorful creations clutched tightly in her fist, she said she has lost count of just how many she has laced – during her free time, at breaks, on the school bus or even at home – this year.
