Sunday beer sales may be extended

Sofa’s Corner, the only bar in Garland, ran a successful trial to sell beer on Sundays.  Now that it’s over, Shane Grover, owner of the bar, wants to continue selling beer on Sundays.
Grover met with the Garland City Council last Wednesday night during their work session and reported the trial was successful for him. He added that not all Sundays proved to be profitable and it mainly depended on what games aired.
Super Bowl Sunday, which marked the end of the trial, was a great success for the bar, he said.
“Overall I think it’s something I can build on and grow with,” Grover said.
The Garland City Council added they received no complaints from residents or from the Garland Police Department. The only issue they do have concerns with is parking along the street during snowstorms. Cars have been left overnight and some for days, which has made it hard for city crews to plow snow along the busy street.
