The Bear River wrestling team wrapped up their successful 2012-13 season by placing sixth with 107.5 points at the Utah 3A State Wrestling Tournament at Utah Valley University this past weekend. Delta won the 3A title once again, while Payson placed second.
In the end, two Bears made it to the championship match in their respective weight while Bear River had four other wrestlers place in their weight. Sophomore Nick Bingham (113) and senior BroDee Stevenson (285) represented the Bears in the finals of their weight and placed second to lead Bear River on the podium.
Bingham suffered a 9-4 loss in a tough match against Jose Garcia of Delta, while Stevenson was pinned by Uintah’s Cole Mair. Both Bingham and Stevenson fought hard against opponents that were two of the best in the entire state of Utah regardless of division, while also proving to the spectators at UVU that Bear River has a quality program with tough, skilled wrestlers.
Seniors Dominic Kunder (126) and Tanner VanValkenburg (132) garnered fourth-place honors, along with junior Kyle Peterson (195) tabbing a fifth-place finish and senior Chad Hornberger (182) finishing in sixth-place.
