Healthier You

Utah State University Extension is offering a “Steps to a Healthier You” class. The five-week series of classes will focus on small, practical steps that will help improve health and proved updates on dietary guidelines and MyPlate. There will be tips on practical ways to include more fruits, vegetables and whole grains in the diet while reducing fats in cooking and balancing activities and calories.
Classes will be held on the following Tuesdays: Feb. 5, 12 and 19, from 6:30 -8 p.m., at the Bear River Valley Senior Center, 510 W. 1000 N., Tremonton. Cowboy Sweetheart Dance
An after-Valentines Cowboy Sweetheart Dance is planned for Saturday, Feb. 16, from 7-11 p.m., in the Box Elder County Fairgrounds auction barn. Live listening and dancing music will be provided by the group, Saddle Strings. Admission is $5. This will be a fun night out for the entire family.

Tremonton Library Activities
The Tremonton Library has several activities planned for the month of February. Story Hour is every Friday at 10 a.m.
An adult activity covering inexpensive date ideas is scheduled for Feb. 7, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, visitors will be able to make a special Valentine’s Day craft. On Monday, Feb. 11, an Anti-Valentine’s Day party for teens will be held from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Teens can make anti-Valentine’s Day cards and duct tape roses. There will also be food and prizes.
The second annual party for boys, “Superheros,” is set for Saturday, Feb. 23, at 4 p.m., at the Bear River Valley Senior Center. Tickets are $2 and can be purchased at the library, beginning Feb. 11. Space is limited.

Food Drive
The Tremonton Food Pantry is in need and a food drive is under way to help. Donate food items or money at Groll’s Family Fitness, Monday-Thursday, 5:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m., Friday, 5:30 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturday, 8-10 a.m., through Feb. 28. Help others be healthier this year.

Logo Contest
The Tremonton Chapter of Friends of the Library is seeking the public’s help in designing a new logo. A $25 prize will be awarded to the winning logo. Designs must be on a regular 8.5 x 11 paper, one color only. Deadline is March 1. Email entries to 4capkids@gmail.com or send to Tremonton Friends of the Library, PO Box 414, Tremonton, UT, 84337.

Orientation Fair
All current fifth grade students and their parents are invited to visit Harris Intermediate School for the annual Orientation Fair, Thursday, Feb. 21. A short general meeting will be held in the gym at 5:30 p.m., to learn basic information about the school and classes offered to sixth graders.

Chinese New Year
Foothill Elementary and Hunan Village are teaming up for the Second Annual Children’s Chinese New Year Celebration, Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 5-8 p.m. at Foothill Elementary, 820 N 100 E Brigham City.
Doors will open at 4:45 p.m. There will be Chinese crafts, games, activities and entertainment, free of charge. The food will be provided by Hunan Village Chinese Restaurant and tickets can be purchased beforehand at Foothill Elementary. Prices for prepaid meals will be: Adults $6 and children $4. Meals at the door will be: Adults $7 and children $5.
Information about Foothill’s Chinese Immersion Program will also be available at the celebration.

Peter Pan
Tickets for Dreampointe Ballet’s production of “Peter Pan” go on sale Feb. 1. This production will be performed at Bear River High School, Saturday, March 16. For tickets and more information, contact Margo Tackett, 435-452-2342, or mgtackett@gmail.com.

Support Group
LDS Family Services sponsors a pornography addiction support group each Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., in the Tremonton Junior Seminary, across from Bear River Middle School. This 12-step program uses gospel principles to overcome addiction. There is no cost and dress is casual. Call 435-752-5302 for more information.
