Box Elder County Search and Rescue crew members spent most of Monday trying to locate a 63-year-old man from Elwood who disappeared after going to feed cattle near the Malad River on Sunday night. Those same crew members were back on the job Tuesday morning to continue the search. Their day-long search was unsuccessful and the man, identified as John Fredrick Kilburn, has officially been declared missing.
Sheriff Lynn Yeates said that Kilburn, who is a retired Navy SEAL, reportedly went to feed cattle behind Tremonton Heating and Cooling and did not return, according to his wife, who notified police. His truck, with the keys still inside, was located at his work but there was not sign of the missing man. Yeates said the concern is the man’s age and a history of multiple medical conditions. Rocky Mountain Search dogs assisted in the two-day search.
Kiburn is about 5′ 10″, and weighs 175 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark colored Carhartt jacket, jeans and boots. He has no teeth and does not wear dentures. Anyone seeing the missing man is asked to contact Detective Blanchard, 734-3803, or Box Elder Communications, 723-6890.
