White Ribbon Week slated
Presentations for students, parents planned
The third annual White Ribbon Week will run Jan. 14-18, at Bear River Middle School and High School.
Highlighting this year’s activities will be a presentation titled “Beauty Redefined,” featuring a set of twins working on their doctorates at Brigham Young University, Lindsay and Lexie Kite. Their program will show how the media offers a false view when it comes to glamour and beauty, and the manipulation of technology that creates an unreal image for youth. The presentation will teach both boys and girls to better understand real beauty.
The program will be presented at both schools on Thursday, Jan. 17, and again that night in the high school auditorium at 7:30 p.m. All parents are invited to attend this free evening presentation and learn more about the fight against pornography. Parents of students at BRMS who attend will receive a ticket that their student can present the next day for an ice cream social.
Prior to the program, beginning at 5:30 p.m., in the commons area, several groups and agencies will be set up to provide information on pornography issues, including internet safety and filtering systems, child abuse, addiction recovery, family support and mental health. These groups include the PTA, Women for Decency, Prevent Child Abuse Utah, Sons of Helaman, LDS Pornography Addiction Recovery and Bear River Mental Health.
Other fun and educational activities will be provided during White Ribbon Week at both school to help promote healthy expectations on beauty.
