Bears battle, but fall in OT to Morgan

Bear River had a chance to win, but in the end it was Morgan who made the plays and, as a result, escaped Garland with a hard-fought 57-55 Region 11 win in girls’ basketball.

The Bears battled from behind for most of the game and finally, miraculously took a one-point lead, 51-50, on a Jordan Theurer free throw with less than 7 seconds remaining. Morgan inbounded the ball and moved it down to in front of their bench where a BR player fouled Morgan’s Ali Tonks. She made one of two to send the game into overtime.

In OT it was all Morgan as they built a four point lead and held on for the win.

Theurer paced the Bears with 15 points. Terrell Fridal had 14 in the post, most coming on a soft turnaround jumper. Sarah Huber and Paige Roholt added 6 for the Bears. Morgan was paced by McKenzie Schenk with 24.

The Bears fall to 2-1 in region (4-8 overall). Morgan is 3-0 in region (9-2 overall). Next up for the Bears is a Tuesday game at Stansbury. Morgan hosts Tooele on Tuesday.

Watch for a photo gallery from tonight’s game later.
