Rob Johnson will be Garland’s new fire chief after an announcement Tuesday night at the Garland City Council meeting.
Steve Harrington will be the battalion chief, with Alan Anderson as the EMS battalion chief, Andy McBride as the fire lieutenant, Jared Lott as the EMS lieutenant, Brady Burgess as secretary treasurer, Mark Abbott as recorder and Jay Westergard as historian.
The council accepted the new positions in the fire department and made a motion to appoint the new officers.
Greg Martz, Box Elder fire marshal, approached the council with a mutual aid contract for the department. The current contract ends this month. In the new contract, Garland City will still get reimbursed for their time, fuel and wear on their trucks when responding to a fire in county limits. If Box Elder County calls any city or town fire department to a call to assist, they will reimburse them $345 to cover gas and other incidentals. The county also reimburses that department $600, which is to go toward the purchase of a new vehicle. Martz estimated that over a 30-year period, enough money should be available to purchase a new fire truck.
