Many Utah State fans from the area traveled to Boise, Id., on Saturday to support their football team and to see a little bit of blue heaven.
The Aggies played in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl for the second straight year. They posted a 10-2 record and earned the WAC’s invitation to the bowl to face the Toledo Rockets.
Even though it was a balmy 39 degrees at kickoff, the USU faithful filled the north stands to near capacity. Toledo, on the other hand, only sold about 400 tickets for the game.
Bowl games are much more than just a game for teams, booster and fans in general. The pregame activities such as bowling, go kart racing and banquets, fill up the team’s time and provide a welcome break before the game.
Fans also enjoyed a little pregame festivity with tailgating on display hours before the game. Simple setups included a grill, drinks and chips out of the back of a pickup to motor homes with dozens of people playing games and having fun.
No matter the outcome (USU won the game 41-15) the 16th annual Famous Idaho Potato Bowl was a fun event for thousands, including several locals.
