Following a text to the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Department on Monday morning, Dec. 17, indicating a student may have brought a gun to Box Elder High School in Brigham City, local law enforcement officers from Brigham City and the county responded to the school.

A preliminary investigation by both the officers and school officials found no basis for the text and did not put the high school in lockdown mode.  Law enforcement presence was increased, however.

A release from the Box Elder School District stated Brigham City Police Chief Paul Tittensor and the administration at the school were quick to respond to the situation. “For the safety of all, it is important that students, staff and community members report potential threats to school officials and/or law enforcement officers,” the statement concluded.
