Jensen resigns as Garland Planning and Zoning chair

Garland City is feeling the heat this week after Jeff Jensen, Chair of the Planning and Zoning committee, resigned over preceived wrong doings from the mayor and city council.

During Tuesday night’s work session Jensen spoke to the council about his decision to resign.

“Please don’t take it (the resignation), as a I take it as a loss. I think Garland has had a loss,” Jensen said.

Jensen’s decision to resign came after he said he was lied to by the city council during the Oct. 23 council meeting. The city council approved a $39,000 salt shed with little discussion and after the motion was made, Jensen asked the council if the building had already been ordered and paid for. Several council members stated that it had not, but Garland City Recorder Sharlet Anderson stated a check had been made for a down payment on the building and sent out.

When I said that “I don’t take it as a loss, but I think Garland has had a loss” I was referring to the fact that Garland City Council has decided to allow “on-premises” Sunday alcohol sales a the bar. I feel that this decsision should only be made after a public hearing and allow the residence of Garland to voice their opinion.
