The Lady Bears tennis team had their state tournament at Liberty Park in Salt Lake last week.

Bear River’s Kenya Rhodes was recognized for being on the Academic All-State team for having a 4.0 G.P.A.

The Bears all had really tough first round matches having to play Judge Memorial who were the state champions.  At first singles, Courtney Comstock played Whitney Weisberg of Judge and lost 6-0, 6-0.

At second singles, Rhodes played Emily Murnin and lost 6-0, 6-0.  At third singles Darci Pali played Katie Iwasaki of Judge and lost 6-0, 6-1.

At first doubles, Riley Westarp and Kaitlyn George lost to Lindsey Olsen and Kirstan Stewart of Cedar City 6-1, 6-2.  Finally, at second doubles, Jessica Hunsaker and Cherokie Limb lost to Caitlin Keenan and Maia Sepulveda of Juan Diego in a very intense match 6-4, 3-6, 1-6.

“I’m really proud of all the girls because even though they knew they were playing some really good teams and girls they still gave every single point their all.  They didn’t lose easily,” said coach Nancy Brough.

The Bears will have their team banquet on Oct. 11 and they will be preparing for next season.
