BC man dies in freeway crash
Brandon P. Phillips, 25, of Brigham City, was killed instantly Tuesday evening, when his vehicle rammed into a semi that had slowed for an earlier accident on I-15.
Lt. Lee Perry of the Utah Highway Patrol, said Phillips was driving northbound near milepost 355 in a 2002 Dodge Neon behind a Freightliner driven by David Townsend, 38, of Nampa, Idaho, at about 5:15 p.m. The semi driver was slowing down for traffic ahead because of the previous crash and had moved into the inside lane. Perry said it appeared Phillips failed to notice that the semi had slowed to a stop and impacted the rear of the truck at freeway speeds. The force sent the Neon under the rear of the trailer.
Perry said Phillips was a corporal in the Army Reserves 744th Engineering Company out of Ogden. He returned in October 2011, from a year deployment in Afghanistan and was a Purple Heart recipient after being injured in an IED explosion of his vehicle while there. He leaves behind a wife and two daughters.
